Blast Theory would like to welcome our new Artist in Residence, Sophie Dixon.

Sophie is a UK based artist who works with drawing, writing, audio and video to explore the constant process of constructing and reconstructing memory to formulate meaning.

Her films are made for gallery installation and single screen cinema environments and over the past year have been shown at the Brighton CineCity film festival, The Whitstable Biennale student open and most recently the Turner Contemporary, Margate for which she has been awarded the CVAN Platform Graduate award.

She will be using her residency at Blast Theory to develop a new body of work in preparation for screening and exhibition at the Turner Contemporary* and CRATE gallery in Margate later this year.

Inspired by a recent residency with the Lens-Louvre-Tourism in Lens, northern France she is exploring the physical and remembered traces of the coal mining industry.  Drawing upon extensive research she will be exploring the use of audio, video and non-linear story structures to weave together a unified experience which stems from deep within the mines.
