Blast Theory’s latest work Proof As If Proof Were Needed, made in collaboration with Ting-Tong Chang, won the Special Jury Award in the XR Experience Competition at SXSW.
The XR Experience Competition judges were Christina Lee Storm, award-winning producer and senior entertainment executive; Caspar Sonnen, Head of New Media IDFA DocLab; Diana Williams, CEO & Co-founder of Kinetic Energy Entertainment.
The jury said:
Spoiler Alert! The Special Jury Award Winner made us feel lost, frustrated and disconnected from each other. What started as a slow burn, turned into an unexpected connection and dance between space, story, technology and human behaviour.
Ting-Tong Chang said:
I would like to thank the film crew, technicians, sponsors, and friends in Taiwan, the UK and America. With all you help, this project was able to happen.
Anne Rupert, Business Director, Blast Theory said:
It was an incredible honour to accept this award on behalf of Blast Theory, and to be in the selection for SXSW XR Experience this year among so many talented artists. We’re very proud of this work and hope to bring it to the UK soon.
About Proof As If Proof Were Needed
Proof As If Proof Were Needed is an interactive single-screen video installation that invites visitors to move around the floor plan of a Taiwanese house to explore the history of a couple who lived there. The work is both a closed loop and a story that unfolds progressively, with different interpretations opening up depending on the order in which the rooms are explored.
Proof As If Proof Were Needed is a vivid cinematic work that follows the logic of dreams as you wander through the debris of a relationship breakdown.
