As part of How We Get To Next’s The Power of Play month, Matt Locke takes a look at key Blast Theory projects and how – in contrast to most games – the projects are not about superpowers but about the politics of power.

Ranging from early projects such as Kidnap – before the days of social media – to our recent immersive theatre show Operation Black Antler , Matt explains how play can be a useful mechanism for exploring our personal boundaries as opposed to pure mindless escapism.

Games are a space to explore wildly different behaviors and identities, but precious few use this space to ask us to reflect on ourselves.
