During his residency, Mats Staub continued to work on his long-term project, 21 – memories of Growing Up. The project involves interviewing participants about the year they turned 21, then a few months later recording them listening to themselves speak about their memories. The result is an installation work where the viewer sits in front of a video-portrait of someone telling the story of how they became an adult.

Brighton was the first UK city used for the project; and it is Mats’ intention to further bring the work to the English-speaking world.
