We’re really pleased to welcome artist Odirile Khune Motsiri to the studio for a four-week residency as part of Culture ConneX, a unique multi-disciplinary arts programme produced by Urbanflo in partnership with Brighton Fringe.

Odirile Khune Motsiri (1994) is an artist working primarily with textiles from Pretoria – Gauteng, South Africa. He received a National Diploma in Textile Design and Technology (2019) and an Advanced Diploma in Fine and Applied Arts (2021) at Tshwane University of Technology.

Khune has been involved in exhibitions and programmes such as the Art Bank of South Africa and the Fnb Art Fair ’22. He is represented by Guns and Rain Art and is completing a work based internship at the Modern Arts Project South Africa.

As a first time traveller outside of South Africa, visiting Britain, I have been exposed to different people and experiences inspiring further exploration of identity and lived experiences in my work. Since arriving I have been documenting the culture-shock around the differences between personal economy of being here and at home. During my residency at Blast Theory, I will be salvaging clothes in a process of making and satirically presenting stitched and collaged 2D and soft sculpture installations. – Odirile Khune Motsiri
