We’re looking for a computer vision expert to join the Cat Royale team.

A computer vision expert is required to develop and expand the Computer Vision components of Cat Royale. It is expected that they will lead on the following tasks:

  • Training and integrating a YOLO network for the detection, identification and localisation of cats (and toys) within a controlled environment. With a requirement to produce a method for rapidly re-training/adapting the network to support the introduction of new cats.
  • Training and deploying of CNN-LSTM model for cat activity detection, required to classify activities of multiple cats from live camera streams. The video-based training dataset is currently in preparation through our Zooniverse project.
  • Supporting the integration of additional RealSense camera(s) into the system, including assisting with related tasks, such as calibration and calculating coordinate systems transformations.
  • Assisting the integration of networks into the system, including the creation of a CV pipeline (if needed), optimisation of networks, and publishing inferred data to the appropriate broker(s) at an agreed frequency.
  • Supporting and advising on CV-related hardware (GPU).
  • Prior experience of ROS would be beneficial but not essential.

About Cat Royale:

A utopia where cats live in harmony with artificial intelligence.

Cat Royale is an upcoming work exploring the impact of AI on animals.

Cats will live inside a utopia created by the artists. The cats’ every need will be catered for, with spaces for playing and socialising, and spaces that are relaxing and private. They will have walkways, cubbyholes and raised viewing platforms.

And at the centre of the room will be a robot arm and a computer vision system offering activities to make the cats happier. The system may throw a ball, dangle a feather or offer a massage.

To ensure the comfort and safety of the cats, experts in animal welfare have been involved in the design of the project from the start and will guide us at each stage.

The computer vision system will try to measure the happiness of the cats and learn how to make them happier.
